A LINK TO Diabetes

A by product of saturated fat may hold a key to taming type-2 diabetes. When saturated fat is stored in the body, it’s converted to ceramides, fatty lipids crucial for cell function. Biochemists at Colorado State University in Fort Collins have discovered that too much ceramide may cause a condition that leads to diabetes. Researchers are working on this link and it could lead to a breakthrough diabetes treatment. Keep your intake or saturated fats under control, but don’t cut fat out completely. Our bodies need a certain amount of fat to function properly. Source : prevention.

Choose your Drinks Wisely

Cans of sweetened soda add 150 calories each, but they won’t curb your appetite. You’ll be hungry for your next meal and probably won’t eat less to compensate for the extra cola calories you downed. Drinks made with sugar substitutes aren’t great either. According to research, those beverages may also increase your appetite, for sweets in particular, leading you to overeat later. H2O, on the other hand, may actually do the opposite – a glass before meals can help keep you from overeating, So grab yourself a tall drink of water.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto has been used for years as an alternative to mainstream medicine. It has been touted as a cure for just about every physical ailment, but its biggest advantage is as an anti-DHT compound. DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, is one of the metabolities of testosterone. DHT has been linked to prostate enlargement. There’s also evidence to suggest that saw palmetto extracts are anti-estrogenic in nature. If that is true, bodybuilders who use steroids or testosterone precursors may want to take this supplement.

Sex – The best testosterone Booster ?

Natural supplements like tribulusterrestis DHEA or androstenedione increase testosterone levels. They work best for men over 40. The best natural testosterone booster, in our opinion, is sex. If you want to help circulate that testosterone, grab your woman and have your own training session. Who knew it would be good for your muscles too ?

Weight Training Good for Old Arteries

Intense weight training can raise blood pressure to extremely high levels. Blood vessels in healthy young people tolerate high-pressure cganges well because the vessels are pliable and strong. Blood vessels stiffen with age, making many physicians leery about recommending weight training to their older patients. These fears are unfounded. Japanese researchrs found that weight training improves blood vessels function in healthy men over 60. twelve weeks of training increased nitric oxide levels, an important chemical for blood vessels control. Weigth training didn’t stffen arterial walls, as feared by some physicians. Weight training is an excellent exercise for older adults. It improves metabolic health, strengthens bone and muscle, promotes normal joint function and improves the quality of life

Weight Training Prevents Arthritis

If you don’t use it, you lose it! Disuse and physical inactivity can lead to osteoarthritis – a painful degeneration of bone and cartilage in the joints. Athritis usually begins during middle age and causes pain and disability. Gradually, the surfaces of the connecting bones deteriorate, which decrease the quality of life. Drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen may relieve the symptoms, but have no effect on the underlying problem. Researchers from the Indiana

university school of medicine found that adults with mild knee arthritis who did lower- body weight training for 2.5 years showed less narrowing in the knee joint following X-ray examination – a sign that arthritis wasn’t progressing. Flexibility exercises practiced by the control group had no effect on knee joint arthritis. Subjects in both groups lost lower-body strength during the study, but losses were less in the strength-training group. ( Arthritis Care Research, 55:690-699, 2006 )

Overtraining Impairs Fertility

Don’t overtrain if you and your wife are trying to have a baby. Spanish researchers found that overtraining decreases sperm count, which could interfere with the capacity for conception. Sixteen healthy young men rode a stationery bike to exhaustion four times a week for two weeks. They showed a large decrease in sperm count, ejaculate volume, number of sperm per ejaculation and decreased sperm quality. Intense exercise with inadequate rest might interface with hormone and fertility control in the brain and testes. Overtraining might be risk factor for you. Couples having difficulty conceiving might consider excessive exercise training as apossible culprit. Intense training with inadequate rest suppresses anabolic hormones such as testosterone, increases catabolic hormones such as cortisol and impairs the immunes system.
